Travel insurance baffles some, study shows

One in eight people have no idea what is covered in a standard travel insurance policy, new research reveals.

The study, conducted by MoneyExpert.com, found that 12 per cent of those surveyed did not know how much they would be able to claim if they needed medical treatment or whether or not their insurance policy would cover them if they lost their passport .

Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert.com, said that this could be part of the reason that many travel insurance claims were rejected.

He added: “With people travelling to increasingly exotic destinations and keen to do ever more adventurous activities while aboard, it’s a worry that many don’t understand what they’ll be covered for.”

Mr Gardner said that with such a wide variety of insurance policies available there was “no excuse” for not taking out a suitable one.
