Allianz Insurance reduces its carbon footprint

Allianz insurance has stated that it is introducing a new company car policy which will make its fleet more economical and eco-friendly .

The company expects the new policy, which will come into operation in January 2009, to reduce the carbon footprint of Allianz’s workers by 13 per cent. Last month, parliament passed the Climate Change Act, which commits the UK to cutting its carbon emissions by 26 per cent by 2020, a target which Allianz says it will help to meet.

Richard Foulerton, corporate social responsibility manager at Allianz Insurance, said: “We fully understand the importance of reducing our environmental impact. The lower emissions of our new company vehicle fleet will contribute towards those set nationally by the Climate Change Act.”

The Climate Change Act, passed just before the recent UN summit on climate change, commits Britain to an 80 per cent reduction in emissions by 2050.
