Following Met Office forecasts for November, over-50s insurer RIAS has warned motorists of the hazards caused by fog.
Car insurance customers and other road users are urged to keep a safe distance between themselves and the vehicle in front, to use their windscreen wipers and demisters and to make sure that they can locate their fog lights.
Janet Connor, managing director of RIAS, said: “Despite possible mild weather conditions this winter, drivers still need to be aware that driving in foggy conditions, particularly at night, can carry its own risks.”
Taking to the roads during busy times can always be “challenging”, she claimed, adding that motorists should take extra care when driving in fog when visibility can be poor.
The Met Office recently warned that light winds and smoke from bonfires could increase the risk of fog and mist during this particular time of year.
