Annual travel insurance could be the cheapest way for Britons to obtain adequate cover if they are planning to make more than one trip during the course of a year, one expert has noted.
Carmel McCarthy, a public relations manager at travel insurance specialist Direct Line, said that taking advantage of a policy offering cover throughout a 12-month period will actually save money.
“If you are going on more than one trip a year, it is advisable to get an annual policy as you can save more money by doing so,” remarked Ms McCarthy.
However, the expert also advised holidaymakers that they may not be fully covered with some annual travel insurance policies if they choose to take part in “dangerous” activities and sports while away.
Some travellers may erroneously believe they are covered when their travel insurance policies do not actually incorporate activities such as these, she added.
Ed Balls, former economic secretary to the Treasury, recently warned that as many as 20 million Britons could be taking out inadequate travel insurance policies by purchasing them as part of a package holiday.
