Financial services provider offers home insurance advice

A financial services provider has offered customers a range of tips to ensure they do not have to make a home insurance claim following a burglary this January.

Traditionally, this month sees houses full of expensive electrical goods following the close of the festive season.

One of the most popular presents this Christmas was the Nintendo Wii games console, which had a UK launch price of £179.

Other goods in high demand included MP3 players and the latest PlayStation games console, all of which may not be covered by cheap home insurance policies.

Now, Keith Lewis, spokesperson for Zurich Insurance, has urged people looking to reduce their home insurance risk to avoid putting out electrical goods boxes until the day of refuse collection.

He explained that this can prevent homeowners from highlighting the presence of valuable items to burglars.

Moreover, he has also urged people to double check their home’s current security measures.

“Use all of your usual locks and dead locks on external doors and windows,” he said.

“Ensure you don’t leave valuable presents near windows unless you can’t avoid it – television can’t be put away but PlayStations can.”
