Halifax Pet Insurance has alerted people who plan to take their dogs and cats on holiday to check the terms of their pet insurance policies first.
According to the pet insurance provider, the majority of insurance companies operating in the sector do not offer the same level of cover if a pet runs into trouble abroad as they do at home.
In other words, if a dog or cat is taken sick abroad then some pet insurance companies may not offer recompense for medical bills and other expenses.
However, Halifax has pointed out that its pet health insurance policy provides the same cover for animals overseas as in the UK.
“Pet owners can be assured that unexpected eventualities abroad will be covered in the same way as they are at home,” explained Vicky Watson of Halifax Pet Insurance.
In addition to pet insurance, Halifax also offers a range of other financial services such as credit cards, mortgages, personal loans and general banking facilities.
Currently, the banking institution is offering a high-interest current account with 6.17 per cent annual equivalent rate on the first £2,500 stored away, with money over this threshold benefitting from a savings rate of 0.1 per cent.
