Holidaymakers have been warned that there is a “big risk” involved in looking solely for the cheapest travel insurance policy.
Carol Wright, a spokesperson for Halifax Travel Insurance, has claimed that Britons should look to find travel insurance from a “trusted” insurer, rather than basing their decision on cost alone.
“There is a big risk that holidaymakers focus solely on the price of travel insurance rather than considering the level of cover provided,” she remarked.
“The cheapest policy is often not the best.”
Ms Wright’s comments come in the wake of several warnings by analysts at the company regarding travel insurance for skiers this season.
Last week, the expert claimed that travel insurance policies for UK holidaymakers planning to hit the slopes cannot be based on the individual’s experience.
The risk of inexperienced skiers harming their more practised counterparts means that this proposal is unrealistic, while insurers would find difficulty in obtaining proof of experience, Ms Wright stated.
Paul Birkhead, senior underwriting manager at Halifax, had also warned that travel insurance policies may not cover additional activities such as snowboarding and skidooing.
