Warm weather during the English summer is a true privilege. The whole country breathes a collective sigh of relief and heads for the beach . However, Tesco Home Insurance has raised the important point that four out of every five homeowners are much less concerned about home security in the summer months.
According to a survey conducted by the home insurance provider, 50 per cent of people, despite being aware of the risks, do not take extra steps to protect themselves against thieves. In response to questions, respondents admitted leaving upstairs windows open during the day (30 per cent), leaving patio doors unlocked all day (20 per cent) and even leaving their front doors open all night (2 per cent.)
The head of Tesco Home Insurance, Allan Burns, said: “It’s understandable that people want to keep their homes as cool as possible during this heatwave. However, it’s important to remember that burglars aren’t any less opportunistic during the summer months than at any other time of the year.”
In fact, with more hours of light, and lighter early mornings, theft has traditionally been just as likely during summer or winter.
Tesco home insurance is currently at a discounted rate when bought online, one of many competitive insurance policies this summer.
