Common travel insurance claims are for hospital care.

The most common type of travel insurance claim this year is expected to be for the treatment of illness and injury. New research by Sainsbury’s Bank estimates that nearly a quarter of a million claims will be for hospital treatment this year, while over 200,000 claims will be for the cost of cancelling a holiday and travel delays.

After the recent industrial action that hit the British Airways airline a flood of claims are expected from angry passengers who were forced to cancel their holidays.
Other types of claims that were featured in the recent research were theft, damage to possessions, lost money and curtailment.

Despite the number of problems experienced on holidays, holidaymakers still under-insure or even forget to insure themselves.

Robert O’May, travel insurance manager at Sainsbury’s says “The excitement of going on holiday means that people can sometimes forget to organise adequate travel insurance for themselves and their families.”

“Good cover is essential for those travelling abroad whether it’s for a short-break, fortnight’s holiday or a longer trip, so that if problems do occur, the impact can hopefully be kept to a minimum, allowing you to continue to enjoy your holiday”.
