Saga is recommending householders in the UK look to home response insurance in order to guarantee greater peace of mind should the UK suffer from a cold snap similar to that seen last winter.
The provider explained the snowy conditions experienced back then resulted in around 7.1 million dwellings enduring boiler and central heating breakdowns.
It noted home response insurance can put people at ease all year round, safe in the knowledge their problems will be looked at swiftly.
In addition, those over the age of 50 can get hold of the cover from just 23p per day, while qualified tradespeople are guaranteed to be on-hand to carry out work and repairs.
Roger Ramsden, chief executive of Saga Services, said: "Last winter's cold spell really did cause problems for many homeowners in the UK, but access to a reliable and fully vetted tradesperson really is just one phone call away."
Last month, John Portwood, personal lines insurance broker at Portwood and Co, predicted the price of home insurance policies will escalate through 2012, as insurers look to recover losses felt during last winter's cold spell.
