A new study by Defaqto shows many more people are confident buying home insurance using the internet and without the advice of professionals.
From the numerous policies available online the study looked at 304 polices that offered a range of features such as legal expenses cover and optional extras such as accidental damage .
An area for concern was highlighted where people bought polices based on the cheapest price without knowing the extent of the cover.
As winter approaches people are being asked to ensure they have adequate contents and building cover as the effects of inadequate cover can be devastatingly expensive. According to insurance experts a claim for a burst pipe is about £15,000. So lag those pipes and tanks and make sure your homes are well insulated.
Mike Powell, Insight Analyst for General Insurance at Defaqto, said, "Our homes and the contents within them are our most valuable assets, and it is therefore important to have appropriate insurance in place to protect them.
"We have found that a very high proportion of people are happy to buy home insurance online without advice."
