The average British woman owns almost £400 of shoes they never or rarely wear, according to research conducted by The Co-operative Insurance .
The study found that while British women own an average twenty pairs of shoes, eleven of those pairs are hardly ever worn. However, while many pairs remain unworn, many women still end up buying eight new pairs of shoes a year.
Lee Mooney, Head of Home Insurance at The Co-operative Insurance, said: "It's staggering to think about how much the average woman's shoe collection could be worth. The research shows just how much most women will spend on their footwear every year and not only that, but how much many will spend on shoes they don't actually wear."
He added that it's easy to forget the value of items like this when assessing the value of household contents but, should the worst happen, it's worth making sure they are properly covered by insurance and especially for those women who have expensive shoes in their collection.
