Cricket fans urged to take out travel insurance before going to the World Cup

Cricket fans thinking of visiting India, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka for the Cricket World Cup, which takes place between February 19th and April 2nd, are being advised to take out a valid travel insurance policy .

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has teamed up with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to issue advice about arranging a trip to the sporting event.

David Collier, chief executive of the ECB, said: "The safety of our fans is paramount and we urge everyone intending to travel to south Asia to visit the FCO website to get the latest travel advice."

Minister for consular affairs, Jeremy Browne, added that cricket enthusiasts should speak to a medical professional before leaving the UK to verify whether they need a course of vaccinations or malaria tablets.

The FCO has issued guidelines to travel insurance policyholders arriving in India for the tournament to avoid the border with Pakistan, other than in Manipur and Wagah.
