Many individuals planning on journeying with presents in tow this Christmas do not intend to acquire travel insurance prior to setting off.
This is the finding of new research by Direct Line travel insurance, which showed 68 per cent of Britons are not planning on obtaining cover when transporting their gifts .
According to the study, just 26 per cent of those questioned admitted they had sought to gain adequate protection, regardless of whether they are venturing to far-flung destinations around the world or heading to see family and friends within the UK.
It was discovered that 69 per cent of those intending to travel over the festive season will be taking presents with them, while 22 per cent said they aim to buy the items either when they arrive at their destination or at duty-free.
Tom Bishop, head of travel insurance at Direct Line - which started life in 1985 - noted yuletide is a time for being with family, meaning many people will by heading in all directions over the period.
The industry figure added: "Wrapping up a good travel insurance policy when you're making your travel plans will help you remain protected if your gifts fall off Santa's sleigh."
