Homeowners who are struggling to get insurance from mainstream firms could now get cover from a new service called homeprotect, which offers immediate online cover for everyone, no matter what their circumstances.
It is estimated that 15 per cent of the home insurance market is eschewed by household names, who refuse to provide cover because they deem some properties, or their owners, a high risk or too complex. This includes four million homes at risk of subsidence, two million on flood plains, 2.8 million people working at home and eight million with criminal convictions.
The site asks numerous questions, but the organisation says this means they are able to ensure risk is correctly priced. David Walker from homeprotect said: "People with unusual or unique circumstances no longer have to accept that getting insurance sorted is going to be a frustrating process. There is no longer the need to ring around to find a specialist broker and wait days for an insurer to offer a price."
