Students heading off to university this autumn may want to rethink taking their car with them, according to moneysupermarket.com.
Steve Sweeney, head of car insurance at the price comparison site, explained that there is a significant difference in cost between leaving a vehicle in a suburban property and parking it at city centre student accommodation . According to figures released by the firm, individuals can pay up to £3,000 more for their policy over the duration of a university course .
Mr Sweeney advises students to shop around to be certain that they are getting the best deal possible and save money if they can. He said: "Those who do decide to take their cars with them should notify their insurer so they can amend their policy details to reflect their change in living situation."
Recently, the website announced that RSA echoice car insurance is now available exclusively on moneysupermarket.com and echoice.com.
