Santander insurance urges homeowners to hire workmen with a reputable background

Anyone who requires building work to their home should first make sure the tradesman have a reputable background, says Santander insurance .

A survey conducted by the the insurance company showed that nearly one in five householders have fallen victim to rogue traders, building up a total cost of £6.8 billion and an estimated £1,592 per unfulfilled contract. Miguel Sard, chief executive for the branch, said the results were "staggering"

He commented: "Using workmen who offer 'mate rates' may look like a cheaper option, but if the job goes wrong it could end up costing a lot more in the long run." Santander provides a five-star rated unlimited cover for buildings and contents insurance in a house with up to five bedrooms and supplementary costs for temporary accommodation .

Recently, Yorkshire Building Society introduced a flexible insurance deal which enables customers to choose the type of cover that will suit their requirements.
