It is essential that football fans heading to South Africa check the validity of their passports before leaving for the airport, as this could ruin their dream holiday, according to spokesperson for esure insurance .
Head of travel insurance at the company Nikki Sellers indicated that this is the sort of pre-holiday check that often gets overlooked in all the excitement of preparing for a trip. She explained that while there are many things that can go wrong on a holiday, not being allowed entry to a country due to an invalid passport is something that can be avoided.
Ms Sellers commented: "It's vital to plan ahead and read the travel insurance documents thoroughly to make sure you're covered should anything unfortunate, such as a flight cancellation or baggage loss, occur."
A number of insurance firms have recently released advice for fans travelling to South Africa for the Fifa World Cup regarding the 5,000 SA Rand (£450) cash limit they are allowed to take into the country.
