Motorbike owners are being advised to check their motorbike insurance policy details before putting their riding attire on and hitting the open road, according to moneysupermarket.com insurance .
Steve Sweeney, insurance expert at the site, advises individuals to contact their insurer if they are not certain about what they are covered for. He indicated that trips to mainland Europe may not be covered within a normal policy and this could put people at risk if they have an accident on the continent. In addition, Mr Sweeney explained that a rider's leathers, helmet and gloves are not always included within a policy either.
He added: "Unfortunately, modifying your bike will often mean your premiums rise, but you still need to let your insurer know. If you make any modification, you need to tell your insurer straight away."
Recently, the organisation advised people against auto-renewing their home insurance, as it claimed that they could save up to £132 by shopping around.
