Over half of motorists have had minor accidents on their way to work, which suggests that this can be the riskiest time for drivers, according to a survey by car insurance company Swinton .
The poll questioned over 1,200 drivers and found that the busy school run was also a risky time for UK motorists, with 9 per cent of respondents having had a minor crash with another vehicle during this period. One in five drivers admitted to having bumped or scraped their car in supermarket parking areas, while almost 8 per cent had been involved in similar incidents in a multi-storey car park.
Steve Chelton, insurance development manager at Swinton, suggests that while such incidents are inevitable, motorists need to have adequate car insurance to cover the repair costs.
He added: "They can also have a big impact on no claims bonuses, if not protected, so motorists often opt to pay for the damage out of their own pocket so they can make longer-term savings."
