The global swine flu pandemic has shown the importance of researching and shopping around for comprehensive health cover, says a health insurance adviser.
Workers planning to move abroad are being urged to think about the value as well as the cost when choosing a health plan .
The international money service Shelter Offshore explained that expatriate health insurance can ensure that patients can be flown out of a country with limited facilities for treatment elsewhere should they become unwell.
Consumers should also check whether an insurer will pay for treatment in an expat's home nation or while on other trips abroad . With a good policy the basic services, such as medicines, will be covered. The insurer said: "Ensure any provider you're considering using will be there to support you in any and all healthcare eventualities."
The economic downturn has caused many customers to drop health insurance cover and providers are reminding consumers to consider the long term implications of not having cover.
