Tesco Bank has advised parents that many children are not getting the message about hygiene issues.
Jeremy Sutton, head of Tesco Child Health Plan, made his comments as research conducted by the medical insurance service showed that one in four youngsters do not use a tissue to wipe their nose.
He indicated that the study found that it is not just younger children who are guilty of poor hygiene. Ten-year-olds, the oldest group tested, are most likely to wipe their noses on their hands, according to Mr Sutton. "Despite the recent focus on raising standards nationally, getting basic hygiene messages through to our kids clearly isn't easy," he added. The report also revealed that 38 per cent of children do not cover their mouth and nose when they sneeze.
Recent research by Tesco Savings discovered that 51 per cent of children believe that they will be millionaires when they are older.
