As the credit crunch and recession take hold of Britain, around 1 in 20 Brits admit they would fake a home insurance claim .
As the credit crunch hits personal finances, making a false home insurance claim may seem an easy way to help however, Julie Owens of moneysupermarket said: "Fabricating a claim for a pay out is not only wholly inadvisable but it is also illegal and you could face being prosecuted as a result."
Buying home insurance is essential for cover in case of fire or flooding, or finding that a home has been burgled and is an expense that could save money in the long term if a genuine claim needs to be made.
By using this insurance cover to fake a claim to help deal with money problems is illegal and it also hits those honest Brits who end up having to pay higher home insurance premiums because of the dishonesty of others. It also affects the insurer .
