Financial services provider, esure, has recommended that consumers take out accidental damage cover to make sure their sofas are protected.
Mike Pickard, head of home insurance at the company, made his remarks as esure released a new survey which revealed that the average couch will experience almost 300 arguments and 1,600 spillages in its lifetime. He pointed out that the sofa has to be a hard-wearing piece of furniture as it is often central to modern family life these days.
According to Mr Pickard, it has to put up with so many visitors and spillages that accidents seem inevitable. He added: "It's crucial for homeowners to have accidental damage cover in case a disaster strikes that writes off the best seat in the house."
A recent study conducted by esure found that pets can be the cause of many arguments between neighbours when they damage someone's property .
