Almost a fifth of drivers believe that car insurance policies have been deliberately designed to confuse them, according to Swiftcover.com.
In a survey conducted by the insurer, 18 per cent of drivers questioned thought that car insurance policies were deliberately confusing. An additional 43 per cent struggle to understand the terms of their policies and feel unsure about what is covered by their car insurance .
The research also revealed that 9 per cent of policy holders think that comprehensive cover means that anyone can drive their car and almost a quarter of those questioned didn’t understand the meaning of voluntary excess .
To enable motorists understand their policies, swiftcover.com has launched the UK’s first interactive online insurance Jargonbuster.
Tina Shortle, marketing director of the firm, explained: "Some drivers struggle with the terms used in their insurance, but it’s vital that they read and understand their insurance policies so they know exactly what they are covered for. Our online Jargonbuster makes insurance terms clearer and ensures drivers get the right cover and best value insurance for their needs."
