Bike training scheme could help reduce insurance claims

A scheme launched in Greater London this year is aiming to increase the level of safety among young bike riders . The scheme is to be run together with Bikewize, a motorcycle training school that has been running since 1997.

Roy Buchanan, principle road safety officer at Sutton council, has announced that the scheme is to be operational in April and will provide young bikers with extra training after they pass their CBT motorbike test, which could potentially help them to avoid bike insurance claims.

He said: "Teenage scooter riders are a real problem. Just after they pass their CBT motorbike test, they are over-confident and they take risks. That is why in April we are launching a campaign with Bikewize to give teenagers extra training after they have passed their CBT."

Mr Buchanan was speaking at the scene of a simulated crash where the intention was to show the public how dangerous speeding can be. In order to make the scene as realistic as possible, ambulances, fire engines and police units were in attendance at the demonstration.
