Motorists cut down on insurance add ons

Motorists in the UK are reducing the number of add-ons they take out with their insurance policies, according to a survey conducted by esure .

The poll found that the number of people opting for motor insurance extras has dropped by seven per cent since last autumn. The firm also revealed that there has been an 8.6 per cent fall in the number of people taking out motor legal protection .

However the company is warning people to think carefully before cutting back on insurance policies they may need, as this could be a false economy if something does go wrong. Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, explained: "Adding a small premium - in the tens of pounds - makes sense if it could stop your no claims discount being reduced in the event of having to make a single claim."

In other recent news, AA Travel Insurance announced that it is incorporating cover into its basic policy to account for holiday firms that are going bankrupt in the current climate.
