Aviva will carry on being the sole provider of insurance products to Barclays customers until 2015.
The deal, which was first established in 2005, will continue to provide home insurance to Barclays banking customers. Since the partnership began, the number of home insurance policies provided by the bank has increased by 40 per cent and this has enabled Aviva to become one of the top ten insurance providers in the UK.
Barclays is the insurance provider's largest household cover partner and also provides cover for the bank's travel policies, small businesses and high net worth clients. Igal Mayer, chief executive of Aviva UK general insurance, said: "This deal is a testament to the good relationship we have enjoyed over the last five years, building a mutually beneficial partnership which is profitable and continues to grow."
Recently, the insurance provider advised customers to get adequate cover for fire damage after a rise in the number of claims, with around 40 per cent of blazes reported to have been started deliberately.
