LV= travel insurance policies to cover Mexico cancellations

LV= has said that its travel insurance policies will cover the cancellation costs of any of its customers who have booked holidays to Mexico but have decided not to go following the outbreak of swine flu .

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is advising against all but essential travel to the country, which means that many holidaymakers heading off for their annual spring holiday could now be dissuaded from travelling.

A spokesperson from LV= said: "The cover will be available for all single and annual trip customers who already have a policy with us and have a trip planned that was booked prior to the FCO advising against travelling."

Swine flu is a virulent strain of the influenza virus which is normally found in pigs and has already been responsible for more than 100 deaths in Mexico. Two British tourists returning from holidays in the country were recently diagnosed with the symptoms and are currently being treated at a hospital in Scotland .
