Given the risk that flooding poses to property in Britain, home insurance is a necessity, according to the Fair Investment Company.
Figures from the insurance company show that one in ten British households are at serious risk of damage from flooding and over a third of people still dont have this kind of cover. Only 57 per cent of men and 64 per cent of women take out cover for their property and personal possessions contained within their home .
Rachael Stiles, spokesperson for the Fair Investment Company, is warning that during the current period of economic difficulty, Britons should not be cutting back on their home insurance .
She said: "It is surprising that such a large volume of home owners and tenants have no home insurance cover at all. Particularly considering the number of floods we have seen in recent years. With so many homes at risk due to poor flood defences, home insurance really is a necessity that should not be forgone."
