Sports injuries as a result of recklessness and negligence are a main contribution to personal liability claims, esure has claimed. According to esure home insurance, personal liability is one of the most uncommon types of claim that is made on home insurance policies, but those that are made are inclined to be large and very serious.
The research by esure revealed that sporting venues such as football pitches and golf courses are generating increasing numbers of personal liability claims. Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, said personal liability could be a "lifesaver" for anyone who has a claim made against them.
The insurer has also advised that maintaining one's property, controlling pets and abiding by the rules of a sport could help a person avoid becoming the object of a personal liability claim.
Defaqto, the financial analyst, have recently reiterated the importance of critical illness cover, citing a "lack" of it within the UK.
