Home insurance essential for students

Many people consider home insurance is for those who own their own house or have valuables. However, students are being urged to take precautionary measures when it comes to protecting their belongings within their places of residence .

Students living in the modern age now have a range of expensive accessories and costly electronic equipment which includes includes computers, laptops, mp3 players, cd players, ipods, clothes and expensive mobile phones . They also have a collection of costly textbooks . The average student studying in the UK has on average, £1,500 worth of belongings within their room or dwellings .

Only 1 in 5 have cover for their belongings even though many are the victims of robbery and theft . Some students may find that their belongings are covered by their parents’ insurance policy, as some insurers offer a cover that insures property even when it is outside the family home .
