Gay couples could be facing unnecessary problems while applying for home insurance, reveals a new study.
According to No Claims Discount, the bureaucracy which helps to process applications is causing added difficulties to civil partners because the forms and procedures have been set-up only to deal with heterosexual couples.
Helen Ward, from the gay and lesbian organisation Stonewall, said that a solution to the problems could be something as simple as changing the forms which are used to fill out applications by adding options for domestic or live-in partner to the current married and single options. She said: "In simple terms, we would recommend that insurers provide these options: under marital status - married/civil partnered, when entering a partner's details: husband/wife/civil partner."
All companies that operate in the UK are bound by the Equality Act of 2007, which outlawed discrimination based on race, sexual orientation or gender .
