The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has emphasised the importance of maintaining a vehicle for car insurance reasons.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at BIBA, said: "Drivers have a responsibility to take reasonable care and a properly maintained car will absolutely help with insurance claims ."
Mr Trudgill also said that if an insurer was expected to cover someone for unlimited liability to someone else and at least £1 million for third party property, then drivers were expected to keep their part of the bargain and have a safe vehicle . He advised people with older vehicles to ensure their MOT was up to date.
Recent research by esure car insurance has revealed that British drivers are likely to experience 31 per cent more accidents in the winter than the summer . The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is warning motorists to have their cars fully serviced before the winter and check their antifreeze .
