A new survey has revealed that more than a million British drivers would refrain from telling the truth when making an insurance claim .
Research from price comparison site moneysupermarket.com revealed that one in three drivers would resist telling their car insurance company the truth in order to avoid having their claim rejected. This indicates that 11 million motorists would commit insurance fraud to ensure a payout.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, commented that many UK motorists are ready to lie in order to conceal their own carelessness, even though this could be what resulted in the car being broken into in the first instance.
He said: "You may think telling a little white lie, or holding back the whole truth is no cause for concern, but if your claim is as a result of your own wrong-doing, then insurers are likely to see it as fraudulent." He added that while this was dishonest, it could also push the price up for other motorists when fraudulent drivers were regularly claiming successfully.
