M&S has restructured its travel insurance cover to include the independent traveller . Under the new conditions, individuals who forgo using tour companies for planning their holiday will still be covered should a flight be cancelled, for example.
M&S Money chief executive, Brendan Cook, said: "We work hard to cater for the changing needs of our customers and it has become increasingly clear that traditional insurance policies, developed with the package holiday in mind, need to move with the times and cover the increasing variety of eventualities faced by the modern traveller."
The independent traveller cover is available to customers as an extra with single trip travel insurance and also as standard with M&S annual multi-trip insurance.
It has been reported by Easier Finance that UK travellers planned and bought over 70 million trips overseas last year and that 50 per cent of British travellers book their trips independently of travel agencies .
