Many British holidaymakers risk facing expensive bills by not ensuring that their travel insurance covers adventurous activities, says Esure .
Research by the insurer revealed that one in ten Brits wrongly believe that all travel insurance covers all adventurous activities and that 15 per cent would book a dangerous sport, even if they knew they weren’t covered for it. According to Esure, 88 per cent of British holidaymakers have participated in an activity such as scuba diving or bungee jumping and more than 2.8 million people have sustained an injury as a result.
Off-road mountain biking, scuba diving and jet skiing are some of the most popular activities that UK holidaymakers will be trying this year and the insurer advises reading the small print on holiday insurance and checking the conditions for coverage of activities.
Mike Pickard, head of travel insurance at esure, said it was essential for holidaymakers to check they are covered for hazardous sports, adding: "Get injured and the medical bills could turn a paradise trip into a nightmare."
