Halifax Home Insurance is urging cyclists to be more security conscious.
Recent data released by the British Crime Survey has revealed that a bike is stolen every 65 seconds in the UK and the average cost of replacing it is around £337.
There are a number of ways to avoid having a bike stolen says the insurer and these include making use of special bicycle parking racks wherever possible and to use a secure lock at all times. It has also been suggested that it would be worthwhile to try and use racks located in well-lit public areas and have hardened steel U-type locks, as cable locks can be cut easily.
Head of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance David Rochester said: " It is important that people take adequate measures to protect their cycles and also make sure they are insured, both in the home and also when out in public places."
