As a result of the numerous baggage handling problems faced by Heathrow's Terminal 5 (T5), some travel insurers have added exclusions on their policies which will prevent passengers claiming for lost baggage if they are travelling via T5.
Insurers including Churchill and Direct Line have stated that cover for lost baggage and delays will be excluded from new policies. However, not all insurers are taking these measures and Insure and Go, Norwich Union and Saga travel insurance will still be providing cover for T5 travellers .
Lisa Harris at Saga commented, "Saga travel insurance is not planning to introduce any new exclusions for those customers travelling from Terminal 5. The decision of some companies to introduce new exclusions is, in our view, an assault on common sense."
Saga Travel Insurance say they have always encouraged people to take out
full insurance protection when travelling overseas as there can be devastating consequences if they dont. They added that introducing arbitrary exclusions would push people to take out policies that wouldnt meet their requirements.
