Families preparing for a summer holiday abroad should make sure their car insurance policy covers any trips they are planning, one expert has warned.
Laura Wood, spokesperson for NFU Mutual, explained that if people take a vehicle abroad they might not have the same level of car insurance cover as they do in the UK.
She said: "It is important that you check your car insurance when you travel overseas as there is often a limit on the number of days that you are covered for."
People should also check their car insurance policy to make sure that they covered in the event of a crash or theft, she added.
Drivers should also ensure that their vehicle is in good condition to reduce the chances of them having a claim on their car insurance in the first place.
Yesterday, a poll by Sainsbury's Car Insurance found that two-thirds of motorists engaged in risky behaviour behind the wheel last year.
