Environmentally friendly Brits should check that their bikes are adequately insured, says price comparison site moneysupermarket.com.
According to research from the site, cyclists can add their bicycles onto a home contents insurance policy for as little as £10. Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "With petrol prices hitting astronomical heights there seems no better time than now to get peddling. However, it's important to consider how well insured your bike is, just as you would your car ."
There are three types of insurance options available for cyclists and these are cover for the actual bike, third party and also personal accident cover. Some contents insurance providers will allow cycle insurance to be added to their standard home contents cover .
Mr Gerrard also advised taking out separate bike insurance, especially if a bike is a valuable model, as it will have additional benefits such as emergency recovery, replacement hire, and even world-wide use for cyclists who take their bikes abroad .
