Car insurance holders warned over driving dangers

People who do not want to make a claim on their car insurance may be putting their lives at risk, they have been warned.

According to a survey conducted by esure car insurance one in three motorists confessed to ignoring car defects to avoid having to pay for the cost of repairs.

It also found that 19 per cent of people ignore warning lights and their car dashboard while ten per cent said they ignore faults until their vehicle was due for its MOT - something that could put lives at risk, the car insurance firm says.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at the car insurance firm , said: "Driving a car with a fault - no matter how small it may be, could potentially increase the likelihood of having an accident or breakdown.

"Motorists should always think about the internal feel of the car whilst driving as well as any unusual noise they may hear."

In related news, a survey by Admiral found that Ford attracted most loyalty among people who needed to replace their vehicle after claiming on their car insurance.
