Delays, cancellations and lost luggage have been experienced by thousands of passengers as a result of the current problems at Terminal 5 . These problems have highlighted the importance of purchasing travel insurance .
According to MORE TH>N, in the opening week of the new terminal at Heathrow Airport, over 200 flights were cancelled and more than 15,000 items of baggage were lost or misdirected resulting in huge inconvenience and financial cost to travellers .
If a flight is cancelled, MORE TH>N advises passengers to ask their airline for a refund or to be booked on an alternative flight to their destination. The insurer says that delays should be compensated for with meals and refreshments and, if required, overnight accommodation .
For passengers with comprehensive travel insurance, compensation can be claimed for lost luggage, delays or cancelled flights and alternative accommodation. It will also insure for losses that are not covered by the airline.
