Insurance firm NFU Mutual has warned motorists about the increased risk of road accidents in rural areas during the coming winter months.
According to the firm, winter weather leads to a rise in the number of claims the firm receives and so the insurer has urged motorists to adjust their driving styles to cope with snow and ice on rural roads.
Laura Wood, spokesperson for NFU Mutual, said that many accidents only involve a single car sliding off slippery roads and do not lead to injuries.
"Naturally, at this time of year when the weather can be increasingly unpredictable, it is vital that you have adequate motor insurance as accidents do happen and you should always be prepared," she advised.
In related news, over-50s insurance company RIAS recently warned motorists about the risks and potential hazards associated with driving in foggy conditions during November.
