The benefits of arranging travel insurance protection before jetting off on holiday have been reiterated by an expert in the sector.
Celia Pronto, marketing director at student travel company Sta Travel, has singled out gappers planning to go abroad for extended periods of time as people who would particularly benefit from travel insurance cover.
Explaining why this is the case, she said that "the longer you travel, the higher the probability that something will happen".
Meanwhile, Ms Pronto has also advised holidaymakers to review the contents of their luggage before heading off to the airport.
"[We] would encourage every traveller to think carefully about the value of each of the items in your backpack," she said.
And it is important to ensure that a travel insurance policy is adequate to cover the cost of replacing every item taken abroad, she concluded.
Holidaymakers who plan to embark on several trips over the next 12 months may also wish to consider arranging annual travel insurance protection.
This is because some financial services providers offer discounts for extended-term deals, compared to single trip insurance products.
