Halifax Home Insurance is offering advice to homeowners whose property is prone to flooding after the Met Office has warned that heavy rain is expected from today.
Senior manager of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance Vicky Emmott comments: "Halifax Home Insurance provides its customers with a 24-hour home emergency helpline manned by fully trained colleagues who can offer useful information and advice on how to manage a home emergency such as a flood."
Halifax Home Insurance urges potential flood victims to move sentimental items to a safe place, move as much furniture upstairs as possible, switch off and unplug electrical items and keep hold of a copy of their home insurance policy if they need to make a claim.
For those who have already suffered flood damage, Halifax Home Insurance advises that homeowners contact their insurers as soon as possible.
Homeowners in Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire and Worcestershire are most likely to be adversely affected by the bad weather this week.
The cost of the floods in June and July to insurers has been estimated at £2.5 billion.
