The value of unused gadgets in UK homes has reached almost £80 million, according to a home insurance provider.
Total spending on these items has reached £1.75 billion each year, the research from home insurance company esure reveals.
Homeowners should ensure that even the goods they do not use on a regular basis are covered by their home insurance policy, or risk being out of pocket, the company warns.
The top five items listed on the home insurance provider's survey were electric grills, coffee machines, sandwich toasters, juicers and electronic bathroom scales.
One of the more popular electric grills available has been marketed by former heavyweight boxer George Foreman.
Nikki Sellers, head of home insurance for esure, said that it may be more complicated for Britons to buy, carry home, unwrap and find out how to work the gadget than relying on older technology.
She added: "esure's aim, as ever, is to remind people not to forget the things they don't use when valuing their contents for home insurance - a white elephant gadget is just as much part of your contents inventory as your most used appliances."
