Snowboarding and other high-adrenaline sports are not limited to younger people, according to a travel insurance company.
Saga Travel Insurance says one in ten people older than 50 take part in extreme sports or highly energetic activities, while 60 per cent say they would like to participate in these.
The travel insurance company urges those planning to hit the slopes this February to ensure that they have adequate insurance in place.
Saga Travel Insurance increased its winter sports cover recently, as more over-50s plan to take part in snowboarding (both on- and off-piste), snow shoeing, snowmobiling, sledging and off-piste skiing.
Cover includes protection against the damage, theft or loss of winter sports equipment as well as against avalanche and piste closure.
Worldwide medical emergency assistance and emergency treatment also form part of the travel insurance policy's winter sports cover.
People over the age of 50 qualify for Saga Travel Insurance.
Research by the insurance company revealed last month that older motorists would like to drive the cars of their TV heroes.
Saga's motor insurance book showed some motorists older than 50 driving cars steered by The Saint, James Bond and Miami Vice's Tubbs and Crockett.
