The spiralling value of items which UK holidaymakers take onto the beach could leave them with out of pocket with travel insurance, a study has revealed.
Items that are left unattended might not be covered by a travel insurance policy, which could leave travellers out of pocket, claims Norwich Union.
Furthermore, the company asserts that 22 per cent of holidaymakers are putting their finances "at risk" by not taking out any travel insurance policy.
Dawn McMullan, travel product manager at Norwich Union, said: "Our evidence suggests that the simple beach bag, once just for towels and sunscreen, has become a glamorous fashion accessory packed with expensive items which make them rich pickings for opportunist thieves.
Ms McMullan adds that holidaymakers are also "severely underestimating" the value of the belongings they take onto the beach, which means that if they become a victim of theft, they could be under-insured.
Norwich Union offers a range of annual cover and single trip travel insurance policies for its customers, claiming that the correct cover could help travellers to relax while abroad.
