Take more holidays, says travel insurance company

Britons are not taking enough holidays, a new survey has claimed.

Workers in the UK not only work the longest hours in all of Europe, but also fail to use all their annual leave, Churchill Travel Insurance says.

The travel insurance company found that many employees postpone holidays and end up planning last-minute getaways (47 per cent), while 26 per cent carry annual leave over to the next year.

But many lose out on holiday time altogether, even though half of these people believe that it is very important to take holidays in order to spend time with loved ones.

Feelings of guilt, being busy and "forgetting" were the reasons why employees failed to book holidays, the survey found.

We're becoming a nation of workaholics, believes Churchill Travel Insurance boss Mike Ketteringham.

British workers are so busy they don't even have time to plan holidays if they do take them, he believes.

"That's why it makes sense for busy people to take out annual travel insurance policies," Mr Ketteringham advises.

By taking out an annual travel insurance policy, people will be ready and prepared to take a holiday as soon as there is an opportunity to do so, "whether it's a weekend break or a surprise fortnight in the Med", he says.
